Housing Maintenance Technician
Full job description
Perform a variety of responsible semi-skilled tasks in maintaining, repairing, and renovating buildings, appliances, and grounds for the housing operations of the agency. Each employee has an assigned set of housing units to maintain. Independence, initiative, attention to detail, and resourcefulness are needed in determining the methods of maintenance to be used on a particular assignment. Work may be in response to resident requests, as a result of inspections or be part of the process of preparing housing units for new residents. Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, and to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and odors. Because of the nature of the work, employees are subject to the OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in trade skills and some experience in trades work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must be willing to be on call for emergencies. Must have reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to perform mechanical or other trades tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, and painting, etc.
Job Type: Full-time, M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
